Evaluation of Effect of IP Performance Degradation on QoE-Web of Online Shopping Service Reviewed
Yosuke Nomura, Yoshihiro Ito
Proceedings of IEICE 2013 International Workshop on Smart Info-Media Systems in Asia 172 - 176 2013.09
Language:English Publishing type:Research paper (international conference proceedings)
paper studies effect of IP performance degradation on quality of experience (QoE) of an online shopping Web service by experiment; it considers the usability based on the ISO 9241-11 as QoE of a Web service (QoE-Web) and the IP performance metrics standardized by the IETF. Moreover, the paper tackles clarification of the relationship between ISO-based QoE-Web and IETF-based IP performance by the multiple regression analysis. The experiment is intended for the two actual Japanese online shopping services and utilizes 35 subjects. From the results, the paper quantitatively discusses how the QoE-Web deteriorates owing to the IP performance degradation and shows that it is appropriate to evaluate the deterioration with ISO-based Web usability.

Evaluation of Influence of IP QoS Degradation on Web–QoE by Severity Rating Method Reviewed

Proceedings of IEEE The 9th Asia-Pacific Conference on Communicaitons 404 - 408 2013.08

This paper studies evaluation of influence of IP
performance degradation on QoE of a Web service by means of the severity rating method. The authors consider Web usability as the QoE and tackle to evaluate it by using Nielsen’s severity rating. The severity on the Web usability is one of measures
that represent how a problem degrades the usability of a Web service. This paper defines the concrete scales about the severity and evaluates them for the two existing online shopping services by experiments, which consist of the two stages. One is done to clarify problems caused by the IP performance degradation, and the other is for assessment of Web usability with the severity rating. From the results, this study clarifies the four problems and measures the severity for each problem; it then shows how the problems aggravate the Web usability of the services. Consequently, the authors confirm that the severity
rating method is effective in evaluation of the influence of the IP quality deterioration on QoE of a Web service. -
A study on Effect of IP performance degradation on Horizontal Sound Localization in a VoIP Phone Service with 3D Sound Effects Reviewed

This paper studies a VoIP phone service with 3D sound effects (3D effect phone), which gives users more feeling of being at a live communication than legacy phone services. However, since an IP network is a best-effort one, we must consider effect of IP performance degradation on the 3D effect phone service. This paper evaluates effect of a speech coding IP packet loss on horizontal sound localization by experiment. The experimental results show the following three issues. First, a 3D effect phone service is feasible. Second, ITU-T G. 711 encoding is more suitable to the service than Speex encoding. Third, IP packet losses deteriorate horizontal sound localization.

This paper studies the effect of IP performance degradation on Web usability by using Nielsen’s severity rating. The severity on the Web usability is one of measures that represent how a problem degrades the usability of a Web service; it is obtained from three attributes: the frequency, the impact and the persistence.
