This paper evaluates QoS of the next-generation in-vehicle Ethernet-based networks in combination with the following three controls defined in IEEE 802.1TSN by simulation. The authors target Strict Priority Queueing (SPQ), Frame Replication and Elimination for Reliability (FRER) and Frame Preemption (FP). The experimental results indicate the followings. First, traffic of the highest priority should be applied SPQ to guarantee its QoS. Second, it is necessary to adopt an appropriate combination of QoS control for traffics of other priority in order to prevent them from deteriorating too much.

  • QoS and QoE Evaluation of TCP Multi-Pathization Method with SDN over IoT networks for Web Service Reviewed

    140 ( 12 )   2020.12

     More details

Language:Japanese   Publishing type:Research paper (scientific journal)

This paper studies the effectiveness of the TCP multi-pathization method with SDN for IoT networks on Web services by experiments of QoS/QoE assessment. The experimental results show that the method is affected less by a difference of delay between paths and can always provide higher QoS than normal TCP for Web services. In addition, the authors indicate that the method can provide higher QoE than normal TCP, and suppresses QoE degradation more. From the above results, the paper confirms that the TCP multi-pathization method with SDN is effective for Web services.

  • Assessment of QoS/QoE for the Maximum Transmission Rate over Congested IEEE802.11g Wireless LAN for Web Services Reviewed

    140 ( 12 )   2020.12

     More details

Language:Japanese   Publishing type:Research paper (scientific journal)

This paper studies an appropriate value of the maximum transmission rate under congested for IEEE802.11g wireless LAN by experiments with subjects. In the experiment, the authors studied the appropriate value of maximum trans- mission rate according to Quality of Experience(QoE) for Web services. This paper treats actual two Web services: Google map and Amazon. This paper studied the QoE-based appropriate values of the maximum transmission rate by experiment. As a result, as Google map and Amazon, we found that the suitable maximum transmission rate exits two point to improve QoE. For Google map, one does not change by the degree of congestion and the other change by it. For Amazon, the suitable maximum transmission does not change regardless of the number of user.

    —A time-triggered scheduling mechanism called
Time-Aware Shaper (TAS) is one of IEEE802.1 Standards and
has a parameter, which is called Gate Control List (GCL), to
control for each class of stream or traffic. QoS will be degraded if the implementer of TAS does not use an appropriate value of the GCL. This paper studies the effect of the GCL on QoS over a network which supports TAS to search an appropriate value of the GCL.

This paper studies a method of estimation QoS for
in-vehicle Ethernet with SPQ. Although SPQ is the simplest and
the most fundamental control, the estimation method of QoS is not yet clear for an in-vehicle Ethernet with multiple switches. The authors evaluate QoS provided by SPQ by simulation. By adapting the regression analysis to the results, the authors obtain an equation of estimating QoS and show its effectiveness.

This paper studies appropriate values of EDCA parameters for the authors' developed wire- less LAN station, which can reduce the bandwidth usage without deteriorating QoE (Quality of Experience) for a Web service. As a QoS control, the wireless LAN station utilizes EDCA, which is standardized in IEEE 802.11e; EDCA has some parameters for QoS control. However appropriate values of the EDCA parameters for the station have never been discussed. The authors study values of EDCA parameters which can reduce more bandwidth usage without degrading QoE by using QoS-QoE mapping equations. Moreover they assess QoE for actual two Web services by an experiment with subjects and confirm that the obtained parameters are effective.

This paper proposes a new MPTCP packet scheduler for improvement of Quality of Experience for a Web service (WebQoE); it suppresses the Quality of Service (QoS) fluctuation while maintaining the minimum throughput required for a Web service. The proposed scheduler adjusts a trade-off between the degree of QoS fluctuation and the throughput according to the observed Round-Trip-Time (RTT). The authors implemented the proposed scheduler and evaluated its QoS by actual experiments. The results show that the proposed scheduler could adjust the trade-off between the QoS fluctuation and the throughput.

This paper proposes a new method of improving multi-pathization method by only selecting the placement of OpenFlow controller. The performance of the multi-pathization is degraded by the difference in delay. The authors implemented their method by actual IoT devices and evaluate QoS by experiment. From the results of experiments, the TCP throughput when the location of the OpenFlow controller is appropriately selected is higher than that of multi-pathization method without our method. Thus, the proposed method decreases the difference in delay by replacing an OpenFlow controller adequately.

This paper proposes a new packet scheduler of MPTCP to suppress Quality of Service (QoS) fluctuation for improvement of Quality of Experience for a Web service (WebQoE). The scheduler estimates the fluctuation of QoS from that of the packet delay, and preferentially sends a packet to uncongested path to suppress the fluctuation. The authors implement the proposed scheduler and evaluate QoS by experiments under various environments. From the results, they show that the proposed method deteriorates QoS but suppresses the fluctuation as compared with the default scheduler under various environments.

This paper proposes a new congestion control of Multi-Path TCP (MPTCP) for improvement of Quality of Experience (QoE). This method controls the congestion window for each subflow so as to suppress the fluctuation of Quality of Service (QoS). The fluctuation of QoS is estimated from that of the Round Trip Time, and the congestion window is controlled according to the estimated fluctuation. The authors implemented the proposed method and evaluate QoS by experiment. The experimental results show that the proposed method can suppress the fluctuation of QoS as compared with the existing congestion controls of MPTCP under congestion.

This paper develops a wireless local area network (LAN) base station with quality of service control based on Web quality of experience (QoE) by bandwidth control and priority control; it evaluates the performance of the developed system by experiments with subjects. By using the relationship between importance of data of a Web service and the distribution of the length of IP packets, the base station can reduce the bandwidth consumption over a wireless LAN without worsening of QoE. The authors have implemented by adopting two technologies for priority control: OpenFlow and Wi‐Fi multimedia. In the experiment, the authors treat three actual Web services and assess QoE for them. From the experimental results, the authors show the effectiveness of the developed base station.

    Abstract:
This paper discusses the most appropriate transmission rate of IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN based on QoE for Web services. Since some QoS parameters have trade-off relationship between each other for the transmission rate, it is difficult to decide the appropriate value of the rate. Thus the authors clarify the relationship between QoE and QoS for Web services by the linear multiple regression analysis. They then adapt measured values of the packet loss rate and those of RTT as QoS parameters for the relationship, and estimate the transmission rate which maximizes the QoE. The authors targeted two actual Web services; shop service and map service; they performed experiments. Their experimental results show that the highest satisfaction can be given when the transmission rate are 9.125 Mb/s and 24.472 Mb/s for the shopping service and the map service, respectively.

This paper studies enhancement of Multi-Path TCP(MPTCP), which is one of new transport-layer protocols of TCP/IP protocol suites, by IP routing for improvement of Quality of Experience for a Web service (WebQoE). In order to confirm the effect of IP routing on WebQoE, the author performed experiments with subjects. In the experiment, the subjects assess Quality of Experience of two actual Web services for different paths under 5 experimental environments. The author utilizes Web usability as QoE parameters. The results show that it is desirable to use appropriate routing for MPTCP enhancement in order to improve Web- Quality of Experience.

This paper assesses the influence of the mean and the standard deviation of the response time on Quality of Experience(QoE) for a Web service by experiments with subjects. In the experiments, the authors target actual two Web services over the Internet: map service and shopping service; they assess QoE with three scales which are based on ISO924111 usability. And then, the authors reveal the relationship the RTT and the QoE parameters by the linear regression analysis. Our experimental results show that QoE of the map service is affected by the standard deviation of the RTT more strongly than the mean of the RTT while QoE of the shopping service is influenced by the mean more than the standard deviation. Therefore, for the map service, QoS control which is reducing the packet loss by buffering and so on to maintain WebQoE. On the other hand, for the shopping service, QoS control which is reducing the delay is appropriate.

In the experiment, the authors utilize three types of terminals: PDA, tablet PC and desktop PC; they assess QoE for two actual Web services. The experimental results show that the effect of QoS degradation on QoE with PDA is less than that of a desktop PC for one service. However, for the other service, little different between the effects is recognized. As a result, the paper confirms that the effect of QoS degradation on QoE depends on the type of a terminal.

In this paper, the authors develop a novel wireless LAN base station with DPI(Deep Packet Inspection) based QoS control, which can maintain QoE during congestion. In the QoS control, the base station always monitors the file type which is found in HTTP messages encapsulated in an IP packet and prioritizes the packet. Since the control is light weight, it can be easily implemented a LAN base station. The authors developed a prototype of the wireless LAN base station with WMM; and they evaluate it by QoE assessment with subjects for actual two Web services. From the experimental results, the authors show the effectiveness of the developed wireless LAN station.

This paper studies an appropriate TCP congestion control for a Web service from a user’s point of view by experiment. In the experiment, trying some congestion controls on both of a Web server and a Web client, the
authors assess QoE for a Web service. This paper considers a Web shopping service as a target one and uses three major congestion controls: TCP Cubic, TCP Vegas and TCP Illinois. The experimental results show that the effect
of the difference between the three congestion controls is not remarkable. However, in some case, when a Web client adopts TCP Vegas, the QoE for the Web service can be degraded. They confirm that the difference between congestion controls on the Web client can also affect QoE for the Web server.

This paper compares two methods of IPv4/IPv6 coexistence from the point of view of WebQoE (Quality of Experience for Web services) by experiment. The authors adopt 6to4 and Teredo as methods of the coexistence. Almost all of the methods of the coexistence degrade QoS(Quality of Service) owing to their overheads. Consequently, they can also degrade WebQoE. However, the difference of the effect of QoS deterioration on QoE is not clarified. This paper evaluates QoS and WebQoE under both of the environment with 6to4 and that with Teredo. In the experiment, the authors utilize three actual Web services. From the experimental results, the authors confirm that both of 6to4 and Teredo degrade QoS but find the difference between effect on WebQoE with 6to4 and that of Teredo depends on Web services.

For service level agreement over company networks or community ones, this paper proposes a simple method of QoE evaluation with objective TCP variables in an online shopping Web service for SLM. It also confirms the effectiveness by experiment. In this experiment, the authors measure 31 variables concerned with TCP performance and assess user’s satisfaction as a QoE parameter for three actual shopping Web services. Then, to clarify relationship between the user’s satisfaction and the objective TCP variables, they utilize multivariate statistics: the principal component analysis and the multiple regression analysis. The experimental results show that the user-satisfaction can be easily estimated with three or four objective TCP variables in the online shopping service.

This paper studies the necessary number of simultaneous TCP connections in a Web client for high Web-QoE. Currently, many Web browsers use multiple TCP connections simultaneously for effective data transmission. However, more simultaneous TCP connections make more establishments/closes of connections and do not always give higher quality of a Web service because users often access to the Web services interactively. Moreover, increase of simultaneous TCP connections causes high load of a Web server. That is, there exist a necessary number of simultaneous TCP connections. The authors assess the necessary number of TCP connections for an online shopping Web service by experiment; here, they utilizes two psychophysical methods: the rating scale method and the method of the limit. From experimental results, they show that the necessary number of simultaneous TCP connections for high TCP throughput is not always the same as that for high Web-QoE.

By simulation, we can easily consist various types of experimental networks, such as a wireless network, but cannot perform Web-QoE (Quality of Experience of Web services) assessment. On the other hand, we can utilize a network emulator to assess Web-QoE instead of using actual networks. However, such a network emulator cannot imitate many kinds of networks flexibly. Thus, the authors have developed a new system by combining a simulator with a network emulator. This paper confirms that this system is effective in assessment of Web-QoE by experiment.

As web services run on the Internet, the deterioration communication quality on the Internet has a great influence on Web usability. The communication quality(QoS) has a hierarchical structure because the Internet architecture is also hierarchical. This paper studies the relationship between multiple communication quality evaluations between layers, including quality of experience. In order to do so, we propose the evaluation method by using path analysis to evaluate the effects on Web usability. The experimental results show that satisfaction, one of the scales for Web usability, has a strong relationship with the number of packet retransmission per unit time in TCP layer and it was influenced by packetloss in IP layer indirectly. As a consequence, we confirmed the effectiveness of the evaluation method by using path analysis.

6to4 is one of the transitional technologies for coexistence of IPv4 and IPv6 and uses tunneling. Using 6to4, however, communication quality is degraded due to overhead of tunneling. In this paper, we investigate the effect of the degradation of communication quality in 6to4 on Web usability that is user experience quality of the Web service. From experimental results, we found that the effect of Web usability due to degradation of 6to4 depends on Web service.

paper studies effect of IP performance degradation on quality of experience (QoE) of an online shopping Web service by experiment; it considers the usability based on the ISO 9241-11 as QoE of a Web service (QoE-Web) and the IP performance metrics standardized by the IETF. Moreover, the paper tackles clarification of the relationship between ISO-based QoE-Web and IETF-based IP performance by the multiple regression analysis. The experiment is intended for the two actual Japanese online shopping services and utilizes 35 subjects. From the results, the paper quantitatively discusses how the QoE-Web deteriorates owing to the IP performance degradation and shows that it is appropriate to evaluate the deterioration with ISO-based Web usability.

This paper studies evaluation of influence of IP
performance degradation on QoE of a Web service by means of the severity rating method. The authors consider Web usability as the QoE and tackle to evaluate it by using Nielsen’s severity rating. The severity on the Web usability is one of measures
that represent how a problem degrades the usability of a Web service. This paper defines the concrete scales about the severity and evaluates them for the two existing online shopping services by experiments, which consist of the two stages. One is done to clarify problems caused by the IP performance degradation, and the other is for assessment of Web usability with the severity rating. From the results, this study clarifies the four problems and measures the severity for each problem; it then shows how the problems aggravate the Web usability of the services. Consequently, the authors confirm that the severity
rating method is effective in evaluation of the influence of the IP quality deterioration on QoE of a Web service.

This paper studies a VoIP phone service with 3D sound effects (3D effect phone), which gives users more feeling of being at a live communication than legacy phone services. However, since an IP network is a best-effort one, we must consider effect of IP performance degradation on the 3D effect phone service. This paper evaluates effect of a speech coding IP packet loss on horizontal sound localization by experiment. The experimental results show the following three issues. First, a 3D effect phone service is feasible. Second, ITU-T G. 711 encoding is more suitable to the service than Speex encoding. Third, IP packet losses deteriorate horizontal sound localization.

This paper studies the effect of IP performance degradation on Web usability by using Nielsen’s severity rating. The severity on the Web usability is one of measures that represent how a problem degrades the usability of a Web service; it is obtained from three attributes: the frequency, the impact and the persistence. This paper defines the concrete scales about the severity and evaluates them for the two existing online shopping services by experiments, which consist of the two stages. One is done to clarify problems caused by the IP performance degradation, and the other is for assessment of Web usability with the severity rating. This paper proposes a new transport mechanism, multi-connection TCP, for high-speed and long delay networks. With to the appearance of ATM network services, wide area data comminication networks(WANs) are becoming faster and more world wide oriented. In this situation, the performance of window-based, flow-controlled and connection-oriented transport protocols, such as TCP, is degraded far from the optimum. The throughput of TCP is limited by its window size and round trip delay time(RTT), and the ideal throughput of TCP with 64Kbyte maximum window size over a trans-Pacific ocean link such as TCP-4 is only about 2.6Mbps for a 45Mbps DS3 line with 200ms RTT. In order to achieve high throughput of inter-LAN communications via a high speed, long delay WAN, such as B-ISDN, we propose a multiconnection TCP, and verify its performance by applying it to FTP. A multi-connection FTP can establish up to 16 connections simultaneously, and transfer the data in parallel. The experiment shows multi connection TCP (16 connections and 24Kbytes of each window size ) achieves about 8.5Mbps end-to-end throughput via an emulated OC3 155Mbps WAN with 200ms RTT.
