To expand the usable wavelength bandwidth for optical communications, we have focused on a use of a 1-μm wavelength band as namely a T-band (Thousand-band), thereby pioneering a new waveband for a photonic transport system. To construct T -band photonic transport system, attractive photonic ICT devices such as YDFA (Ytterbium Doped Fiber Amplifier) and holey-fiber transmission lines are developed. In this paper, T -band, 10-Gbps, and error-free ultra-broadband photonic transmission over a holey fiber can be demonstrated. Pioneering broadband optical frequency resources over the 8.6-THz is s...

We investigate electro-optic digital-to-analog converter (EO-DAC) that can synthesize several types of optical multilevel signals, such as nQAM and nPSK. Conventionally, optical vector IQ modulator is utilized to synthesize optical QAM, where inphase and quadrature components of optical carrier orthoganally signalled in multi-level. In this case, the analog channel between an electric digital-to-analogue converter and the vector modulator should be carefully managed keeping adequate lineality. In the EO-DAC, on the other hand, optical QAM is synthesized from electric binary data sequences, ...

A broadband modulator with a low operation voltage has been developed for ultra-high-speed modulation. We fabricated the high-speed optical LN modulator with 3-dB bandwidth of 25 GHz. Applying a ridge-type optical waveguide structure on a z-cut LN substrate helps realize a Vπ of 1.9 V at a frequency of 25 GHz in differential operation. 100 Gb/s NRZ-DPSK signal generation with the modulator was successfully demonstrated.

We successfully fabricated a high-speed optical vector modulator for over 100Gb/s signal generation. An electric-electric frequency response originating from a substrate mode-coupling is improved by using 0.1mm-thick LiNbO_3 substrate. The optimization of the modulator structure realizes a lower half-wave voltage of the modulator. We demonstrated 100Gb/s (50 Gbaud) NRZ-DQPSK modulation and 90Gb/s NRZ-DBPSK modulation.
