Materials with high ionic conductivity are attracting a great deal of attention because they are indispensable for improving the performance of batteries, sensors, and capacitors. Solid electrolytes, in particular, have a potential to compensate for the shortcomings of liquid electrolytes, and are the subject of intense research and development worldwide. One of the big characteristics of glass is its high formability. Here we are focusing on glass-electrolytes. Differences between “superionic conductive glasses” and “ordinary glasses”, as well as the mixed alkali effect will be overviewed. In addition, glasses can retain large residual stress inside that can reach the order of several GPa depending on the cooling conditions. These residual stresses also affect ionic conductivity. Recent results on the application of glass formability and softening fluidity to the formation of interfaces in all-solid-state batteries, and to ion emission from sharpened glasses are reviewed.

In order to understand the hydrogen affinity of polymer-derived SiCH membranes, the amount of adsorbed hydrogen molecules was measured near room temperature, and the stabilization energy for hydrogen adsorption was also calculated by first-principles calculations using the MP2 method. The energies of the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO), the dipole moment of model molecules as well as the charge of the molecular hydrogen, and those relations to the hydrogen molecule affinity were investigated. A linear relationship was found between LUMO energy values and the minimum stabilization energy. It is suggested that a hydrocarbon ring (pore entrance) less than 1 nm on the surface of the SiCH membrane is important as an adsorption site of a hydrogen molecule.

電導性を有する圧子を電極としても利用することで、圧子圧入と同時にインピーダンス測定を実施する電気化学圧子圧入法について研究しています。4GPaを超える局所高圧力場でのYSZの電気抵抗と応力・ひずみの関係を同時測定しました。有限要素法(COMSOL)による圧力場と電場のシミュレーションから、酸化物イオンが伝導する際の活性化体積を一回の圧入から決定することに成功しました。

溶融法で作製したガラスはプロトン(=OH基)濃度が低く、ガラスのプロトン伝導性は一般的に非常に低いです。以前に我々は燃料電池発電雰囲気に曝されることでガラスのプロトン伝導性が向上することを見出しています。燃料電池発電雰囲気を模擬した独自開発のin-situ赤外線分光装置を用いて、発電下でガラスのプロトン濃度が上昇するプロトン注入効果を初めて定量的に明らかにしました。論文では放射光X線による構造解析と合わせてプロトン注入を議論しています。

室温付近でも高いAg+イオン伝導性を示すAgI-Ag2O-B2O3ガラスを先鋭化して電界印加することで、室温かつ大気圧雰囲気においてもAg+イオン放出を確認しました。Ag+イオン放出寿命を電気化学水晶振動子微量天秤による電流値と振動数変化から議論しています。またAg+イオン照射後のガラス基板にはより多数のHeLa細胞が付着することを明らかにしました。兵庫県立大学との共同研究成果です。

SiO2(シリカ)はSiが4つの酸素で囲まれていますが、4つのうち一つをフェニル基に置き換えたものがフェニルシルセスキオキサン(PSQ)と呼ばれます。このPSQ粒子はゾル-ゲル法によって合成でき、粒子をガラス転移温度以上で加熱プレスすることで透明なバルク体に転移し、また絶縁性も比較的高いです。粒子→バルク転移時の変形挙動をin-situ解析したところ、粒子間にボイドが存在する場合は粘弾性挙動を示すのに対して、ボイドフリーのものは弾性変形すること、またボイドフリーの方がより高い絶縁耐圧を示すことを実験的に明らかにしました。

成形性に優れるAg+イオン伝導性ガラスを溶融法で作製して、その先端を先鋭化して真空条件で高電圧を印加することで、ガラス先端からのAg+イオン放出を確認しました。イオン電流と電圧の関係はショットキープロットでよい直線性が見られ、Ag+イオン放出は熱電子放出と同じショットキーモデルで表されることが明らかとなりました。

ゾル-ゲル法を用いてプロトン伝導性多孔質ガラスロッドを作製し、その先端を先鋭化して高電界を印加することで、室温の大気圧においてH+がロッド先端から放出されることを実証しました。イオン注入はこれまで真空中で実施するのが常識であったが、本成果によって大気圧下でH+注入が可能となります。ポリアニリンに対する水素付加反応より、H+放出を実証しました。細胞工学との融合や新たな医療技術への応用が見込まれます。

酸化亜鉛に機械的衝撃を加えた際の表面酸素欠陥の生成量をラマン分光測定より詳細に調べ、欠陥生成のダイナミクスをFickの拡散理論を基に考察しました。インパクト頻度を加味した独自の拡散モデルによって、高い精度で自己拡散係数の決定に成功し、さらに酸素欠陥量とアニオン(S)ドープ量に線形関係を見出しました。HAADF STEM観察よりZnO(core)/ZnS(shell)構造形成を確認し、モデルの妥当性を実証しました。酸化物粒子の表面修飾法として広い応用が見込まれます。ドイツエルランゲン(FAU)および豊橋技術科学大学との共同研究成果です。

当研究室ではプロトン伝導性ガラスについて研究しています。電子銃を参考に、プロトン輸率tH=1を示すリン酸塩ガラスをファイバー化、またナノ先鋭化してH+放出エミッタ―を作製しました。ガラスエミッタ―と引抜電極間に高電圧を印加すると、ファイバー先端からH+が放出されることを実証しました。H+銃の小型化につながるのではないかと考えています。

インデンターの圧子を電極として用いてインデンテーションと同時にインピーダンス測定を実施することで、4GPaを超える高圧力場でのYSZの電気抵抗と応力・ひずみの関係を同時測定しました。有限要素法(COMSOL)による圧力場と電場のシミュレーションから、酸化物イオンが伝導する際の活性化体積を決定しました。これまで活性化体積の評価にはアンビルセルなど高圧装置が必要で難度が高く、イオン伝導に対する活性化体積はほとんど評価されていません。本手法は試料をステージにおいて圧入するだけで非常に簡便・迅速であり、さらに従来とは異なり、力学応答(弾性率など)と電気抵抗の同時評価が可能という非常に大きな利点があります。燃料電池電解質の劣化加速試験など、本手法の適用範囲が広がっています。

溶融法で作製したリンケイ酸塩ガラスのプロトン伝導性に関する論文です。水素雰囲気中での通電条件によりリンケイ酸塩ガラス中にプロトンが導入されること、プロトン輸率は混合アルカリ効果の影響を非常に受けること、またSnを添加したガラスはプロトンと電子の両方を伝導する混合伝導性を発現することを説明しています。

圧子圧入法を利用したGPa級の局所応力場を利用した高圧下インピーダンス測定を行い、酸化ジルコニアのイオン伝導に伴う活性化体積を決定した。活性化体積はイオンがホッピングする際の構造緩和の指標であり、温度一定での導電率の圧力変化から導かれる。固体電解質に対しては一般にGPa級の圧力可変が必要で、これまで活性化体積に関する報告は歴史的にもごく限られたものであった。本手法は圧子圧入時に圧子直下に発生する高圧場を利用したインピーダンス測定でこれまでに無いオリジナルな成果であり、測定装置は自作した。

2成分MO·P2O5ガラスの構造を放射光X線を用いて調べ、また当該ガラスへのプロトン導入量とプロトン導電率の関係について調べた。水素雰囲気下で通電(Pt電極)するとガラス中に水素ガスから解離したプロトンが注入され、ガラスのOH基濃度が増大した。OH基濃度の増加量と導電率の増加量は古くから知られるσ∝[H+]2で表され、キャリア(H+)濃度の増大と導電率の関係を定量的に明らかにした。FTIR測定によるP=Oピークシフトと導電率の関係から、非架橋酸素の電子密度がプロトン導入量と関係することが示された。
