In recent years, the weakening of local community bonds has become a societal issue. Moreover, community societies are diverse groups composed of individuals with varying ages and values, and their composition varies depending on the region, such as rural or urban areas. Existing community activity models design the decision-making of agents based on the framework of planned action theory, making it difficult to express the diversity of local communities and their specific characteristics. In this study, we introduce a community consciousness that represents individuals' attitudes towards community into the existing models. Additionally, using the proposed model, we observe and analyze the impact of community consciousness on the formation of community activities. Through this analysis, we contemplate operational strategies to increase community activity participation by engaging individuals with low interest in community activities.

Information overload has become a problem because of the rapid development of the Internet, and recommendation systems have attracted attention and research as a solution. The use of game play time data has become mainstream in the gaming field, often focusing on the game play time of a single player and data about the game. However, many recent games require interaction with other players, and it is highly likely that players are influenced by players other than themselves. In this study, we proposed a new game recommendation system based on the relationship between in-game friends and game selection, focusing on co-play time, which is the time spent playing games together with in-game friends. Furthermore, we confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method through experiments.

  • Opinion formation model considering fact-checking on SNS

In recent years, information exchange through Social Networking Systems (SNS) has become popular, but it has been pointed out that it creates a polarized information environment known as an echo chamber. Prior research has proposed an opinion formation model that mimics SNS, and has shown that the basic structure of SNS promotes the occurrence of echo chambers and polarization of opinions. Although this model assumes political opinions among people with different partisanship, it has been confirmed that in the real world, the echo chamber phenomenon also occurs due to misinformation spread on SNSs. In addition, although fact-checking activities to correct misinformation have been conducted, it is considered possible that corrected information is not shared in an environment where echo chambers are formed. In this study, we propose a model of opinion formation on SNS that takes into account fact-checking and examine the impact of fact-checking in an environment where echo chambers are formed.

The recent proliferation of smartphones has made it possible for the common user to analyze movements without the use of special devices such as Kinect. A system that uses decision tree learning to evaluate the performance of a martial arts demonstration based on features obtained from the acceleration information of a smartphone attached to the performer's waist has been proposed, but the prediction accuracy of the system is not high. The reasons for this may be that the feature selection method is not appropriate and is not in line with the actual evaluation method of martial arts demonstrations. In the actual evaluation of martial arts demonstrations, which consist of multiple movements, the evaluator intuitively derives a single overall evaluation by summarizing the evaluations for each movements, so it is inappropriate to apply machine learning directly to each movement and the overall evaluation. In the proposed model, we realized a model that is closer to the human evaluation method by using machine learning on noisy labels to calculate the overall evaluation based on the majority vote of each movement evaluation, and confirmed that it can reproduce the evaluator's evaluation with high accuracy in experiments.

In the rapidly changing world of smart technology, searching for documents has become more challenging due to the rise of advanced language models. These models sometimes face difficulties, like providing inaccurate information, commonly known as "hallucination." This research focuses on addressing this issue through Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), a technique that guides models to give accurate responses based on real facts. To overcome scalability issues, the study explores connecting user queries with sophisticated language models such as BERT and Orca2, using an innovative query optimization process. The study unfolds in three scenarios: first, without RAG, second, without additional assistance, and finally, with extra help. Choosing the compact yet efficient Orca2 7B model demonstrates a smart use of computing resources. The empirical results indicate a significant improvement in the initial language model's performance under RAG, particularly when assisted with prompts augmenters. Consistency in document retrieval across different encodings highlights the effectiveness of using language model-generated queries. The introduction of UMAP for BERT further simplifies document retrieval while maintaining strong results.

Lexicon-based approaches to Document Classification are widely used, but the manual construction of lexicons can be time-consuming and resource-intensive. In this paper, we propose methods for automating the generation of lexicons later used for Document Classification. We explored diverse methods for generating lexicons, including semantic matches, frequency-based approaches, machine learning algorithms, and large language model techniques. We, later, used these lexicons to classify documents based on their content. By comparing our different lexicons results on a same task, based on criteria such as scalability and the F1 score, we determine optimized use-case for those methods. We show that our automated approaches are effective and efficient, producing accurate classifications with minimal human intervention. Some approaches have the potential to streamline the document classification process, reducing the time and resources required for manual lexicon generation, it also gives optimized use-case for the different methods. Thereafter, we discussed the obtained results.

POS data analysis is a technique for analyzing consumer purchasing behavior. In order to improve product sales, there is a technique for clustering stores based on the ratio of product sales by genre to total retail store sales, and clarifying the relationship between location and the tendency to order at stores within a cluster. However, in restaurants, the trend is not in the number of product sales, but in the content of individual customer orders. In this study, we propose a method to classify stores by extracting ordering trends from the orders of each receipt using non-negative matrix factorization. Since this method classifies stores based on frequently occurring order trends, it can be used to identify the relationship between store needs and location/environment. In an experiment, we applied the proposed method to POS data of several restaurants and confirmed its effectiveness.

In recent years, we have seen many large-scale disasters such as earthquakes, and overflows of shelter capacity often occurred due to the day-night population gap at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Therefore, it has become an important issue to allocate shelters in consideration of the day-night population gap (diurnal variation). In the shelter assignment problem, the use of zero-suppressed dichotomous decision graphs (ZDD) makes it possible to enumerate all patterns of shelter assignment. Studies using ZDD evaluated the distance to the shelter and the capacity factor, but did not consider the dwell time on the travel route, and used the fixed number of evacuees. In this study, we add an evaluation index using a network flow simulation method in order to take into account the number of people who stay in shelters along travel routes. In addition, we propose a method for obtaining shelter allocation that takes into account the diurnal variation in the number of people staying in shelters using stay history data for all time segments. In our experiments, we used three evaluation values: distance, occupancy rate, and evacuation completion time, and confirmed the effectiveness of the method through experiments using real environments.

In a multi-agent environment where multiple agents exist, the agents may achieve better results by cooperating one another than by acting self-interestedly. Curiosity-driven exploration, which is used in a single-agent environment with sparse rewards, offers rewards to unknown states, and the agent learns a policy to seek such unknown states accordingly. Using it in a multi-agent environment may allow the agents to acquire cooperative behavior by promoting exploration and changing the reward structure. The experiments we conducted in a predator-prey problem show that the curiosity-driven exploration allows the predators to catch more preys.

In the field of sociolinguistics, it has been shown that people manipulate their social distance from others and increase the efficiency of communication by changing their language in conversation based on accommodation theory. In social psychology, the mere exposure effect, in which repeated contact improves the impression the other person, has been identified, and some studies have shown that the greater the number of contacts in a short period, the better the impression. Conversation is one way people make contact, and we can assume that people manipulate their relationships with others by improving their impressions of others and changing their language through increased conversation. On the other hand, the platform Twitter enables the observation of people's behaviour on a large scale. `Reply' on Twitter can be regarded as conversations with others. In this study, we propose a model to quantitatively extract changes in stylistic features of language with the volume of conversation per unit time on Twitter. In the proposed model, we convert the stylistic features of the conversation data into a textual feature matrix. Then, we analyze the conversation data by extracting important textual features that increase or decrease with the conversation volume per unit time using non-negative matrix factorization. Experimental results showed a number of linguistic findings, such as the fact that increased volume of conversations leads to fewer polite expressions and more straightforward sentences.

Data related to various human movements are available due to the recent development of IoT devices and communication networks, and research on the use of historical data of human movements is being actively performed. In this study, we use log data on employee movement obtained from an entry/exit management system, which has been implemented in many businesses. We propose a method for creating a social network based on employee entry/exit history and observing employee performance. We focus on meeting room-related data from entry/exit data and evaluate employees using meeting network centrality indexes. According to the experimental results, the meeting network's closeness centrality best represents job position, while the meeting network's betweenness centrality best represents employee performance.

Smartphones and smartwatches are widespread. Devices have with sensors. Research activities to obtain data from sensors to recognize sports motion and find modifications are on the rise. These studies make it possible to provide movement feedback without a coach. However, a few studies have focused on the correctness of the movement, or which parts of the movement are correct. Herein, we propose a method to evaluate the movements of a martial arts demonstration based on sensor data obtained from a smartphone. In the demonstration, several movements, such as punching and kicking, are performed. The coach considers each movement and evaluates the overall movement comprehensively. Regarding the coach evaluation, we evaluate sensor data by dividing the data and using machine learning. This method was applied to the acceleration data of taekwondo demonstrations. It was shown to reproduce the instructor's score with high accuracy.

People generally perform various activities, such as walking and running. They perform these activities with different motions. For example, walking can be performed with or without swinging shoulders, as well as staggering and swinging arms. We assume that such differences occur based on physical and mental characteristics of humans. To analyze relations between the motions and the characteristics/conditions, it is useful to group humans according to these differences. In a previous work, we proposed a method that successfully grouped humans by analyzing accelerometer data of their bodies in a specific activity with fixed timing and duration. In this study, we tackle with a problem of grouping human in generic, variable-length activities, such as walking and running. We propose a method that detects same motions from the accelerometer data with sliding windows and merges continuous same motions into a motion. The method is robust regarding the difference in timing and duration of the motion. In our conducted experiments, the proposed method classified humans into groups appropriately, the groups which are acquired by the previous method with the same data but without assuming fixed timing and fixed duration, which are assumed in the previous method. The proposed method is robust against temporally noised data generated from the data.

Deep reinforcement learning is working well in the environment with high dimensional states. However, it is difficult for a reinforcement learning agent to learn an optimal policy in the environment where it hardly obtain rewards. Curiosity-driven exploration is a solution that gives intrinsic rewards to the agent in unfamiliar states to encourage it for visiting various states. This work proposes Sequential Intrinsic Reward Generator (SRG), which extends curiosity-driven exploration to a sequence of states and gives the agent intrinsic rewards for unfamiliar state transitions. Due to this sequential property, SRG is promising to work well also in partially observable Markov decision processes. The result of experiments shows that SRG worked better than other methods in such environments.

Activate of community activities plays an important role in solving regional and national problems. In communities such as neighborhood associations, community activities sometimes carry out to enrich lives of members and improve their environment. Participation in community activities is supported by members having rights and responsibilities. However, there are few people who actually participate. That's because nonparticipants can obtain the same benefit with participants. Therefore, nomination of a leader who always participates in the activities and encourages the norm consciousness of the surrounding people is important to activate activities. In this research, we propose a community activity model introduced changes of a leader. We make community activity be activated by changing a leader.

Reinforcement learning (RL) is a learning method that learns actions based on trial and error. Recently, multi-objective reinforcement learning (MORL) and safe reinforcement learning (SafeRL) have been studied. The objective of conventional RL is to maximize the expected rewards; however, this may cause a fatal state because safety is not considered. Therefore, RL methods that consider safety during or after learning have been proposed. SafeRL is similar to MORL because it considers two objectives, i.e., maximizing expected rewards and satisfying safety constraints. However, to the best of our knowledge, no study has investigated the relationship between MORL and SafeRL to demonstrate that the SafeRL method can be applied to MORL tasks. This paper combines MORL with SafeRL and proposes a method for Multi-Objective SafeRL (MOSafeRL). We applied the proposed method to resource gathering task, which is a standard task used in MORL test cases.

To motivate the members of an organization, it is important for the manager of the organization to understand the characteristics of changing friendships among the members. There are friendship generation models based on rational and structural choices, but most do not consider affiliations, such as a class at school. In schools, friendships change after a class has changed. This paper proposes a friendship generation model considering affiliations based on structural choice. Simulations show that if the model has a strong influence of affiliations, the model better matches the actual changes of friendship.

It is important for teachers to understand the characteristics of forming and changing of friendship networks to manage their classes effectively. Many studies have analyzed friendship networks using agent-based models. Most of the models used were designed for capturing basic phenomena in a micro-viewpoint. The purpose of our study is to simulate actual friendship networks. In this paper, we present an agent-based friendship-network model based on our analysis of friendship networks among university students. We focused on Hiramatsu's model based on a cost-benefit analysis and modified the model with the aim of closing to the actual friendship. With our modified model, the benefit function was based on their cluster structure. The results with the modified model better matched the actual friendship networks. The clique size in the modified model approached that in the actual friendship networks, and the values of several network properties approached those of the actual friendship networks.

Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) Is a data analysis method and it outputs a concept structure called a concept lattice. One of the problems of FCA is that the size of a concept lattice becomes far larger as data become larger. Various methods for reducing a concept lattice have been proposed, but they have disadvantage, e.g. reduced one is not a lattice. In this paper, we propose a method for reduction using attribute inference based on an approximate implication. We also evaluated some methods regarding that a reduced lattice has noise.

In the field of phylogenetics, a range of methods have been proposed for estimating phyletic trees and cladograms. However, it is not yet clear whether these methods work with real phyletic relationships. To give a foundation to evaluate these methods, we propose a phyletic model to generate various phyletic relationships in this paper. In experiments, we generated various phyletic relationships by the proposed model and evaluated an existing estimation method.

The purpose of computational phylogenetics is to assemble a branching diagram or tree that represents a hypothesis regarding the evolutionary relationships of an entity set. Phyletic trees and cladograms are well-known methods for expressing phyletic relationships. Although many estimating methods for cladograms have been proposed, few studies have examined automatic estimation of phyletic trees because, in our opinion, most biological entities do not have birth year information. On the other hand, targets in cultural phylogenetics may have birth year information. Therefore, we propose a method to estimate phyletic trees for cultural phylogenetics using estimated cladograms and birth order information. First, we define necessary conditions for estimating phyletic trees from cladograms and birth order. We then propose an algorithm for estimating phyletic trees that satisfy these conditions. We demonstrate that the phyletic trees estimated by the proposed algorithm satisfy the defined conditions. Our experimental results show that the proposed estimation method obtained approximately 70% estimation accuracy for some targets.

It is risky to invest to single or similar mutual funds because the variance of the return becomes large. Mutual funds are categorized based on the investment strategy by a company that rated funds based on performance, but the fund categories are different from its actual operations. While some previous studies have proposed methods to cluster mutual funds based on the historical performances, we cannot apply these methods to new mutual funds. In this paper, we clusters mutual funds based on the investment similarity instead of the historical performances. The contributions of this paper are: 1. To propose two new methods for classifying mutual funds based on the investment similarity, 2. To evaluate the proposed methods based on actual 551 Japanese mutual funds.

Systematically collected class attendance records of students in university let us possible to observe friendship networks among students through time. With the friendship networks observed by this method we study local structures, which are called ego-centric networks, of friendship networks and transition of the structures. In order to observe transition of egocentric networks we classify them to clusters. For classification we examine a top-down cluster model, in which we define clusters based on social characters, and a hierarchical clustering method using structural attributes for ego-centric networks. The two methods are applied to real friendship networks that we observed for seven years and we see some observation about friendship transition. From our experiments the top-down model gives understandable transition of friendship structure. We can observe the process of growing friendship of students. The observation will be a promising approach to a computational analysis of construction of social roles in community.

Artificial society is a discipline to study mechanisms of social system and phenomena which the mechanisms make. Emergence is global phenomena occurred by local mechanisms, such as, by collective behavior of autonomous agents. Understanding of emergence phenomena is a challenging subject. In this paper we use the framework of inductive logic programming (ILP) for artificial society and emergence behavior study. ILP is a branch of machine learning based on logic programming and inductive inference. We investigate the possibility of ILP in artificial society study. ILP and logic programming technique are applied to representation of an artificial society model, called Sugarscape, and to rule learning for agent behavior. Although classical ILP algorithms target classification problems, the proposed algorithm grows behavior rule for an evaluation measurement. Phenomena which this paper treate is limited but we showed that ILP technique can be applied to study in the field of artificial society.

Human motions have two types: purpose-related and purpose-unrelated ones. For example, in walking, we have to move our legs alternately but do not have to sway our shoulder as some people do. If the purpose-unrelated motions are different based on some properties like genelational and cultural backgrounds, we can categorize people according to such properties by finding groups in which they have similar motions. Categorizing people according to motion enables us to develop some additional services by observing usual activities. In this work, we propose a method to group people by using string representation of accelerometer values of moving hands. We investigate human motions in radio gymnastic exercises in which principal motions are predetermined and show that this proposal is able to find the groups from minor differences in motions.
