  • Action Mechanism of Volatile Anesthetics on the Phospholipid Monolayers using Physicochemical Methods

    The rapid progress of modern clinical medicine raises the importance of anesthetics, however, details of anesthesia mechanisms remain unclear: no consensus exists. In this study, we are investigating the action mechanism of anesthetics on various phospholipid monolayers using various physicochemical methods from the viewpoint of interfacial action theory, and also propose the guideline for the creation of new anesthetic.

  • Vibrational spectral analysis of surfactant molecules

    A molecules which possesses both hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups in itself, such as phospholipids in membrane, is known as a amphiphilic molecule. When these kind of molecules are dissolved in water, they form self-assembled-aggregate stuructures, such as micelle or vesicle, and so on. In this study, we are investigating experimentally and theoretically the properties of the amphiphilic molecule using the vibrational spectroscopy and the density functional theory (DFT) calculation.

  • Studies on the surface freezing effect of long chain n-alkanes by differential thermal analysis and ultraviolet photoemission

    It has been discovered a unique phase transition behavior of n-alkanes named surface freezing. Surface freezing refers to the phenomenon that a thin layer at an air/liquid interface crystallizes at a temperature higher than the bulk freezing point during the cooling of a liquid substance. In this study we are investigating this effect using differential thermal analysis (DTA) for thin film and ultraviolet photoemission.
