    For time series information processing using pulsed neuron models, a supervised learning rule is proposed that enables clustering based on the ordinal relation of input pulses by simultaneously learning of the connection weights and delays of the pulse neuron model. However, clustering by supervised learning rule does not extract features inherent in the data. In this paper, We apply this learning rule to unsupervised learning to verify whether it is possible to perform clustering that captures the temporal characteristics of the arrival order relation of pulses.

    In investigating musical compositions that have elements people made uncomfortable, we considered that one of the characteristics of discomfort is that they have a persistently loud and high-frequency pure tone component. A piece of music with this pure tone component causes people to feel uncomfortable, and as a result, its composer suffers the loss of the opportunity to have his music heard for their music. During the investigation, it was found that the music with similar characteristics but which is not significantly unpleasant has a beat to the corresponding pure tone component. In this study, we focused on the pure tone component to verify the effect of reducing discomfort, by adding a high-frequency pure tone component with a slightly different frequency.

    In general, noise is known to have a negative effect on signals. However, in certain systems, a phenomenon called stochastic resonance can occur, and noise can have a positive effect on the signal to improve its performance. The occurrence of stochastic resonance has been reported in many nonlinear systems with thresholds, such as sensory organs. Similarly, stochastic resonance should occur in human hearing, resulting in improving auditory function. In hearing, stochastic resonance is thought to occur in hair cells that have a threshold system, of which outer hair cells contribute greatly to the auditory frequency resolution. In this study, we focused on the auditory frequency resolution and confirmed the effect of stochastic resonance.

  • An Estimated Intersections Reduction Method for Percussion Source Separation Based on the U-Net

    In the music information processing using drum information, the sound source separation is pre-processed to separate only drums from the music. The U-Net based sound source separation method has the highest separation accuracy among the conventional separation methods. However, it has a problem that the excess component tends to be generated at the intersection of the instruments, and the problem is critical in the drum separation where there are many intersections. In this report, in order to solve this problem by removing the excess components, we propose a method of separating the harmonic instrument sound at the intersections from the music and subtracting them from the drum separation result, and show the effectiveness of the method.
